Why the IAS ?

Academies of sciences are authoritative institutions that can marshal the world’s best scientists to provide expert knowledge and advice to countries, governments as well as policy and decision-makers on a broad range of science-related issues.

In response to the need for an international organization that can play such a role, the Islamic World Academy of Sciences (IAS) came into being in Amman (Jordan) in 1986 as the academy of sciences of the 57 countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the OIC science community worldwide.
